the most common weapon was the katana (samurai sword) . samurai swords still have the reputation of the best swords in the world. the reason they are so strong is because they are folded. most of them were folded about 800 times. folding s when you hammer the steel then bend it back then hammer it. they had an incredibly sharp blade and they were very balanced. it is near impossible to by a real samurai sword today because ther real ones arnet allowed out of japan. you can by samurai swords that are just as good for about $2,000 but if you were to go to japan to by a real one they'd be about 14,000
there was the wakizashi. a smaller samurai sword just as sharp made in the same way but the blade was a bit wider. when the samurai committed suicide this is what they would use. it was a side arm, meaning that it was a back up weapon. they had these in case none of their other weapons were available. a matched set of a katana and a wakizashi is called a daisho
another two weapons that the samurai used were spears and bows. they were trained to use ranged weapons on horseback going at high speeds and on foot.
